| Indoor Trainier Tip | Protect your bike. Use a sweat-catcher or a towel over the top tube and handlebar to catch your sweat. Always wipe down the bike and trainer after every session. A fan will also make your ride more enjoyable and you will sweat less too. | Wallace Wormley |
| Climb in the drops? | When doing hill intervals or hill workout mix up every 3rd climb by doing them while in the drops. It will make the same old hill feel and look total different. It will feel more like you are doing a hard interval into a headwind instead of climbing a hill. | Wallace Wormley |
| Brake and derailuer cables | Avoid using cables that come precoated with a teflon coating. They are ususally black and are made buy several companies. I thought it was a good idea and they looked cool too. Problem is that they don't wear well. The black teflon wears quickly in spots where you want to reduce friction so you still have to lube these areas. Also the teflon over time gets gummy in the housing causing poor shifting and braking performance. Here is a clue that they are not the next best thing and just marketing hype: Look at all the top race bikes in the pro tour or on the mtb circuit. They all use good old stainless steel cables. | Wallace Wormley |
| Road handlebars 101 | Road handlebars use to be easy. Width and you had your choice or shallow or deep drop bars. Now it seems like there are a million different options. Material: carbon fiber or aluminum
Bar Clamp Diameter: 31.8 or 26.0
Bend: anatomical or classic round
However before you decide on any of the above make sure you know the 3 measurements to make sure you purchase bars that fit you. - Width: usually measured center to center should correspond with the width of your shoulders.
- Reach: the distance from the tops of the bars to the bend where you mount your brake levers.
- Drop: The distance from the tops of the bars to the drops
